You may be exercising, eating reasonably well, and even taking some supplements because you heard that it would help you to focus better, or you may be doing yoga and meditate to manage stress and work on your mindset - in an effort to help your overall health and wellness.

You may wonder who I am. I am Dr. Christine Sauer, founder of DocChristine.com and the Power Up Your Brain System.
As a retired, German-trained medical and naturopathic doctor, as well as a mental health “survivor” myself, I am focusing on truly integrative, functional, holistic Brain Health, neuroplasticity, healthy longevity and coaching in 5 Dimensions.
In my over 40 years in healthcare, I researched everything available about aging, longevity and health.
Many doctors are afraid of patients that go to “Mr. Google” for health education, but I always found that an educated patient really is a good doctor’s best friend and more motivated to actually do the things that move the needle in the right direction for them.
Most people and even the majority of doctors would agree that “normal” aging means having to slow down, making more mistakes, having a harder time to focus, and most likely to become forgetful, “senile” and probably at some point end up in a nursing home, depending on others for even the most basic functions of life.
And most people, me included, do not want this for themselves.
We are told by mainstream media and doctors that we need to eat better, lose weight, and exercise and reduce stress to prevent illness. Millions are spent on weight loss, diet, and exercise programs every year.
But we also know that these programs don’t work at all for most people who try them, and they don’t work in the long term for over 90% of us.
That’s why I studied and continue to research strategies on how to change unhelpful habits, how to live longer and better and avoid the common downfalls of aging as much as possible.
And I discovered that everything we are, and everything we do, starts with one thing: A better brain. Using the principles of neuroplasticity for us, and not against us.
A Better Brain = A Better Life
I feel very privileged to be able to call him my mentor and teacher and one of my role models.
Let me tell you a bit about my own journey:
This is me, in 2005 - Before I knew how to optimize my brain...
I am smiling, but I wasn’t happy. I was scrambling in life, sad, stressed, dreaming of a better life…, like many of us professionals and businessowners do.
Just “trying to make it work better”, working as hard as I could, but hitting an invisible ceiling…
At the time, even as a physician, I couldn’t help myself. I tried so many different things to change how I felt.
And I know from talking with other professionals and business owners, that they also tried many of the same things:

And maybe working that much has cost you your personal health, good relationships and of too much of your precious life time.
You are probably worrying about your future, are dreaming of a better life, while staying "just" comfortable – maybe already feeling stressed out, burnt out, stuck, depressed, trapped, hopeless, secretly or openly drinking, eating or smoking too much.
You are on a downhill spiral, on a slippery slope leading to a mental breakdown, chronic pain, loss of sex drive, and ultimately even to a stroke, heart attack, diabetes, cancer or dementia.
You may constantly ask yourself questions like: “who am I?” "do I matter?", "does my life matter?“ “What will stay behind when I am gone?” “Will I have made a positive difference in this world?”

Here Is How This System Works:

These are 3 independent phases that need to be used in sequence and in all 5 dimensions to make good decisions for every unique individual.
The AIM Process.
Aim is an Acronym. It stands for
A- Assess. This is Phase 1: we need to analyze and assess in depth what has been going on so far, what did and didn’t work and make a strategic plan to fix it
I – Intervene. This is Phase 2. Here we need to implement the necessary changes in all 5 Dimensions according to your individual brain type, experience, history, assessment results and goals,
M- Maintain. Phase 3 is about how to maintain your success and grow further, re-assess and re-adjust as required
You may have noticed that most doctors are trying to apply a process like this. But mostly, this fails. And here is why:
They often are specialists in one small area, which is great if you need difficult surgery or have a very rare and sudden issue.
But let’s look at a common issue: Type 2-Diabetes. What’s the current approach to that?
You or your doctor measures your blood sugar or AIC. It comes back abnormal. A diagnosis is made. A label is given. Maybe bloodwork is done – with the main purpose to assess which of the many, more or less expensive medicines are indicated.
You get pills and/or needles. You may even get told to see a dietitian and exercise more to lose weight.
Sounds great. But how does this work? Statistics don’t lie: Most overweight diabetics fail to lose enough weight to make a real difference. Most do take the recommended medications and see a nutritionist, make a few changes, start some exercise. Over time, a majority of these diabetics still continue to gain weight, so doctors add medications and later on they deal with the complications that will show up.

So let me explain what this means when it comes to optimizing your brain power in 5 dimensions. In my opinion, this is a different path, a better approach:

Here is what we do in detail:
Here is what needs to be looked at in the physical dimension:
Nutrition – What diet are you currently eating? What foods do you prefer Are there Food Allergies, Intolerances or Sensitivities?
How do you experience eating/food as it relates to your brain function/mood/focus?
Any stomach issues, bowel issues, digestive issues?
Are you exercising? What kind, how much? How intense? Prior injuries? How do you experience exercise?
What about your Health History: We often do not realize how different body systems influence brain function, mood and thought patterns. We need to ask about things like traumatic brain injuries - concussions, accidents, injuries, illnesses, medications, supplements, Infectious diseases and so much more.
Assess prior lab tests, imaging and other medical tests, naturopathic tests, psychological tests and other tests and look at them from an optimal health standpoint, not just what is normal – if you work with us, we encourage you to submit a scan or image of the results if available.
We ask about prior diagnoses given (we call them labels) , doctors and other practitioners seen and what they did or didn’t do
And we ask about other aspects like genetics, exposure to toxins, sleep, hormones, allergies, and sexual function.

But without a prior in-depth assessment like I just talked about the - action often goes in the wrong direction.

A tiny change a day or a week, if combined with an accountability system and reminders, will lead to lasting positive change.
Action steps can be around either of the 5 Dimensions we talked about before but need to be individualized depending on your unique situation, needs and goals.
Phase 3: Maintain Your Success And Continue To Grow
Maintaining your success and the positive results and further growth is the hardest part. It is a lifelong journey. Continual Re-assessments and re-adjustments are needed as life goes on.
As this is a lifelong process, you will need the support of mentors and guides to keep you on your desired path, hold you accountable, remind you of your goals, help you adapt to challenges, overcome obstacles and give you additional tools when – and as – you need them.

Great Question! It depends on where you start and how fast you can go through the assessment phase and complete the additional tests, work through the materials and action assignments and implement the changes. But don’t worry. After the initial 90 days are finished, there are options to extend your program for as long as you need it.
Well, you are right. Although we do guide you through a measured process to reduce overwhelm, this program does entail a lifestyle change. This results in you first starting to improve your brain and then continuing to grow and nourish your brain - through small but persistent action. This will result in your optimized brain – and you will also grow as a person, build your character, discover or reaffirm your values, and transition to your new lifestyle of consistent and continued growth. Whether that will be on your own or by continuing our program, is up to you. After experiencing the changes myself, I certainly do not want to go back to my starting point and give up the results I was able to achieve. I bet you will feel the same.
